How Do We Raise Our Children To Still Love Nigeria? – YourView Ladies React

A young Nigerian girl in diaspora video has gone viral on the internet which steered up a conversation amongst the ladies on the TV show, YourView.

Morayo narrates that this young girl called out parents and leaders for taking their kids out of the country and feeding them bad ills about Nigeria.

In the video, she called out the fact that many of them raise their children, the youngster abroad hating Nigeria.

How do we expect these children who were raised to hate their motherland to love their country?

Most Nigerians are raised to hate Nigeria, they all aspire to travel out because something is better out there and those who even take their children abroad never say good things about Nigeria.

The question now is who is going to fix Nigeria? How do we raise our children concerning patriotism? Is patriotism still necessary or are we all just looking for the opportunity to relocate somewhere and have a new identity?

Due to the negative image of Nigeria that has been presented to children today, some parents threaten to send their kids back to Nigeria if they don’t behave, and this has made the children dread the country more.

If many countries are invested and hoping to create an enabling environment for their diaspora to come home to develop, which diaspora are we inviting home if they all hate this country?

Giving response to this question, Tope said she got two things from what the girl shared, one of which is that “our leaders demand respect without earning it, and parents demand respect without earning it.”

She additionally stated that it is an indictment on all our leaders if people can still say “back then in the days, Nigeria was better.”

Mariam also shared her view on the issue, stating that “many times we are so caught up with being adults and taking decisions, we don’t acknowledge the mistakes we were making and leaving behind.”
