Senate urges Buhari to present supplementary budget

The Senate has asked President Muhammadu Buhari, to send a supplementary bill, for the Lagos to Calabar rail project, that was not captured in the 2016 budget sent to the National Assembly.

The resolution followed a closed-door session, immediately after the upper chamber resumed from its three weeks Easter break.

TVC News Sumner Sambo reports that Senate plenary resumed Tuesday after a three week break and immediately sitting commenced, the upper chamber entered into a closed session.

Senate Spokesman, Senator Aliyu Sabi later briefed correspondents.

He said the Lawmakers had resolved that the executive should send a supplementary budget capturing the Lagos -Calabar project immediately after signing the transmitted budget.

Other principal officers of the Senate urged the media, presidency officials and ministers to stop over heating the polity instead of following constitutional procedure.

The National Assembly insists that the Lagos to Calabar project is a good project that should not have been omitted hence they are prepared to pass any supplementary budget on it whenever such is presented by the presidency.
