Universal Music Launches Claim-Free Service for Content Creators

Universal Production Music, a division of Universal Music Publishing Group, has launched a new subscription music licensing service called “Universal Music for Creators.” This service provides content creators with access to music and sound effects for online videos without the hassle of copyright claims. It offers an extensive library of over 50,000 high-quality tracks and 200,000 sound effects, continually updated to meet the diverse needs of today’s creators.

Universal’s “claims-free music” means that once a subscription license is obtained, no further royalties are required for the use of the tracks. This initiative positions Universal Music Publishing Group as the first major music publisher to offer a subscription program for pre-cleared tracks, allowing creators to incorporate music and SFX into their videos and podcasts without concerns about copyright claims.

This launch puts Universal Music for Creators in direct competition with existing royalty-free music platforms, such as Epidemic Sound, a Swedish royalty-free soundtrack provider that is widely used on platforms like YouTube and TikTok. Universal Music Publishing Group states that the music catalog available through this new service was previously only accessible to the TV and film industries and offers more tracks and SFX than any other claims-free music subscription service.

Jody Gerson, UMPG Chairman and CEO, noted the significance of Universal Music for Creators, emphasizing the company’s commitment to leading the industry by providing innovative programs like this.

Jane Carter, President of Universal Production Music, expressed enthusiasm for the launch, underscoring the trust, quality, and prestige associated with Universal Music for Creators, which aims to provide accessible and affordable music and sound effects for creative content producers.
