Travis Scott’s Astroworld Lawsuits: Nearly All Settled Except One

All but one of the lawsuits stemming from the tragic events at Travis Scott‘s 2021 Astroworld festival have been resolved. The settlement, reported by ABC News on May 8, includes all but the case involving the family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount, the youngest victim of the concert.

Despite a motion to dismiss filed by Scott’s legal team being denied by District Judge Kristen Hawkins last month, Travis Scott and Live Nation are still facing potential billion-dollar payouts in damages if found liable. The judge’s decision allows the civil suits to proceed.

Scott’s attorneys have argued that performers like him shouldn’t bear responsibility for concert safety, emphasizing that festival organizers and venue staff are tasked with ensuring attendees’ well-being. They highlighted Scott’s cooperation with safety measures and compliance with directives during the event.

While Travis Scott remains entangled in the legal process, Drake has been dismissed from the plaintiffs’ claims after his attorneys successfully argued his lack of involvement in the festival planning.

The legal developments follow last year’s decision by a grand jury not to pursue criminal charges against Scott, as detailed in a comprehensive investigation report by the Houston Police. Requests to remove certain entities from the lawsuits, including Apple Inc. and Scott’s own Cactus Jack Enterprises and LaFlame Enterprises, were denied, while Drake was granted removal earlier this year.
