Medvedev Ousted from French Open by De Minaur as Clay Struggles Persist

Daniil Medvedev, the Russian fifth seed and former US Open champion, faced a four-set defeat against Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the French Open fourth round on Monday. Medvedev’s performance at Roland Garros remains underwhelming as he lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3.

De Minaur, who had never advanced past the second round at this tournament before this year, will now move on to face either Alexander Zverev or Holger Rune in his second Grand Slam quarter-final, his first since the 2020 US Open.

Medvedev, a six-time Grand Slam finalist, has historically struggled at the French Open. His best result was a quarter-final run in 2021, and he has been eliminated in the first round in five of his eight appearances.

De Minaur, on the other hand, has shown significant improvement on clay this season. In addition to his success at the French Open, he reached his first Masters quarter-final on the surface in Monte Carlo.
