Ed Sheeran Acquires Minority Stake in Ipswich Town

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, a lifelong fan of Ipswich Town, has acquired a 1.4% minority stake in the newly promoted Premier League club.

Sheeran, who has been the Tractor Boys’ main shirt sponsor since 2021, will have long-term use of an executive box at their Portman Road home, but will not join the club’s board as his investment is only “passive and minority.”

In a statement, the 33-year-old expressed his excitement about the opportunity, saying, “It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner of the club they support, and I feel so grateful for this opportunity.” Sheeran, who has lived in Suffolk since he was three years old, feels a strong connection to the community and is proud to be an Ipswich Town fan.

Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton praised Sheeran’s support over the past three years, describing it as “nothing short of remarkable.” He noted that Sheeran’s investment in the club highlights the special nature of their relationship, as one of the biggest artists in the world has provided significant exposure and support while asking for very little in return.

While Sheeran will not have a voting role or a seat on the board, his investment is seen as a positive step for the club as they prepare for their Premier League campaign. Ipswich will begin their season at home against Liverpool on Saturday (12:30 BST).
