Airforce seeks to weaponise Unmanned drone

The Nigerian Airforce is looking to weaponise the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle it developed in 2013, as well as improve the shooting range of its aircraft.

This was the focus of a meeting between the management of the air force and a team from the National Space Research and Development Centre.

In 2013, the Nigerian Airforce unveiled the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle developed by its engineers.

Named Gulma, the drone, since then, has gone through several stages of improvement. And now, the Air Chief wants to weaponise it.

Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar also wants to improve the shooting capacity of the Nigerian Airfroce platforms.

This was the reason for the meeting with a team from the National Space Research and Development Centre.

The space research centre through its subsidiary has developed technologies that can propel rockets farther than what the airforce is looking for.

For this reason, it is confident of a productive partnership.

In the light of dwindling economic fortunes and a dip in the forex reserves of the country, the Nigerian Airforce is exploring local possibilities in the development its capacity.
