A tricycle, known as “Keke NAPEP” accidentally stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device planted by the side of Biu -Damboa road close to a military checkpoint on the outskirts of Biu town in Borno State.
The IED exploded and instantly killed 4 persons including a woman, her baby and 2 other male adults.
Three other persons were injured including a soldier and they were immediately evacuated to Biu General Hospital, where the injured soldier died.
The scene has been cordoned off while an Explosive Ordinance Device team from Forward Operation Base in Buratai, has been mobilized to carryout further search of the area.
Preliminary investigations shows that the IED was buried a long time ago.
