Nigerian Army denies killing pro-Biafra activists

The Nigerian Army says it did not kill pro-Biafra activists as alleged by Amnesty International.

Army spokesman, Sani Usman insists that the allegation is an attempt to tarnish the image of the troops as the army’s actions towards the agitators have always been in defence of the security of the nation.

The human rights group had released a report on Wednesday accusing the army of killing 150 pro-Biafra protesters in the country’s southeast.

The Rivers state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps says it has commenced investigations into the brutal killing of four of its members by yet to be identified gunmen in Onelga local government area

TVC News Edmond Awadje reports that operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have been in the forefront complementing efforts of other security operatives in checking crime especially pipeline vandalism.

To show their displeasure, the hoodlums have often times engaged them in shootouts.

The state commandant of the NSCDC said her men were attacked in their camp in the Omoku area of the state. She said her men had last week arrested a pipeline vandal and had received intelligent reports of an imminent attack on the camp prompting it to call for military reinforcement there.

Amakiri revealed that investigations are on going with a view to bringing to justice all those behind the gruesome murder.

Meanwhile the Rivers state leadership of the NSCDC said operatives of the corps would not be deterred by the killings in discharging its duties.
