TVC E. The EFCC has invited eight Borno State commissioners for an interview following a petition made against them and may probe them over “disrespect to due process and budgetary provisions”.
The commissioners were allegedly accused of living above their earnings and of awarding contracts to themselves and buying luxury properties within and outside Nigeria.
The commissioner likely to be invited are: Alhaji Babakaka Bashir Garbai, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs; Engr. Ibrahim Mohammed Bukar, the commissioner for Works and Transport; Salma Anas Kolo, commissioner for health; Comrade Musa Inuwa Kubo, commissioner for education; Alhaji Sugun Mai Mele, commissioner for housing and rural electrification; Zainab Gimba, commissioner for poverty alleviation; Alhaji Yunus Mairami, commissioner for finance; and Alhaji Usman Zannah, commissioner for agriculture and natural resources.
One of the sources in Maiduguri said, ”The contract issue is against the law of civil service which prohibits public office holders from engaging in any type of business relating to the office he or she is holding.”
It was also gathered that there are petitions against the Borno State Secretary to the State Government, Baba Ahmed Jidda, and Chief of staff to the Borno State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Kyari, over properties and estates they reportedly acquired in Abuja.
