Congolese singer, Koffi Olomide to appeal 18-months jail term

Legendary Congolese singer, Koffi Olomide who was recently sentenced to an 18-month jail term without the option of fine said he will appeal his jail term.

Olomide was sentenced by a Kinshasa court following an assault on one of his female dancers in Nairobi, Kenya few days ago.

A congressman, Zakarie Bababaswe started a campaign against Koffi upon his arrival in Congo, going on TV to question why the singer was still walking scot-free despite critical evidence.

A Kenyan publication, says the singer who has a long history of violence was then immediately arrested and charged to court for assault on the victim.

After pleading his innocence with his lawyers arguing that Koffi was manhandled by the police, the singer was found guilty of the offence and was subsequently sentenced to over a year in jail.

Koffi Olomide was convicted in his home country in 2012, after assaulting his producer, Diego Lubaki,.
