Akan David — is an Enigmatic African Artist, currently residing in Nigeria his works of art thrive mainly on Afro-Cultural, spiritual, psychological issues, mythological tales, sensuality and folklores.
Although having multi-techniques in art he predominantly explores traditional painting using surrealism, sgraffito, chromolumism (pointillism).
His works are Mostly with multiple pictorial units, elaborate and highly embellished motifs and African traditional codes like the “Nsibidi” sometimes amalgamating them with mystical and esoteric symbols all encoded in a picture.

How did art start for you?
Everyone is born an artist but the problem is grooming it into maturity. However, I started art fully at the age of 13 but professional, in 2014. I am an artist and also an art tutor. I am a full-time studio artist and also an experimental.
One of my paintings, “Tales By The Moonlight” is showcasing that both animals and people can enjoy fictional stories.

What does art do to you as a person?
I see art as a kind of therapy for me, in a world where there’s a lot of intensity and chaos art is my safe place, it brings calmness and allows me to meditate and develop myself spiritually over the years.
Apart from the aesthetic purpose it also serves as a tool for self-development and I encourage everyone to practice art.

How can one practise and go into art?
The word art is broken into two parts, visual art and non-visual art, I am a visual artist and I dwell in the discipline of painting, illustration, textile art, graphics etc.
Anyone interested in coming into art depends on a person’s skill and passion. Everyone is an artist like I said it’s just how to groom it that matters.
