The Nigerian government is set to tackle the issue of poverty alleviation head on.

It has announced its plans to give out a N5,000 Naira empowerment fund to the poorest families in the country every month.

Vice-president Yemi Osibanjo disclosed the news at the graduation ceremony of the senior course-38 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies kuru Jos, north-central Nigeria.

The vice-president was in Jos to represent president Muhammadu Buhari who was the special guest of honor at the occasion.

This year’s theme was “Strengthening institutional Mechanism for Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Development in Nigeria”.

The vice-president who congratulated the graduands for choosing the theme says the planned stipend, is in line with the federal government efforts towards poverty eradication in the country.
