Jussie Smollett risks 3-year jail term for filing a false report

Chicago police say Empire star – actor Jussie Smollett has been charged with filing a false police report.

With investigations carried out, Jussie Smollett might be in more trouble and may face jail term.

Recall the Empire star had said he was subjected to a homophobic and racist physical attack by two men in January.

It was reported that two Nigerian brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo had told the Cook County Grand Jury handling his case that they were paid by the star to stage a false attack.

In a new development, the Grand Jury has stated that asides the confession, they have also investigated the evidence. Some of the evidence also shows them buying supplies for the attack including gloves, sunglasses and red hats. The brothers also confessed that he took them to his residence to rehearse the attack days before.

Also, the attack was timed for January 29, the day the brothers were leaving for Nigeria.

Chicago Police however obtained footage which appeared to show the two brothers buying materials, including ski masks, that had allegedly been worn by the actor’s attackers.

The brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo, left the US after the alleged attack and were arrested on their return last week. They were later released and are said to be co-operating with the investigation.

One of the brothers is Smollett’s personal trainer and both have worked as extras on Empire.

With this, Smollett’s account to the police is seen as inconsistent.

Jussie Smollett’s story – The actor, who is openly gay, said he had gone out to buy food late at night when two white men hurled racial and homophobic insults at him, punched him, poured a chemical substance over him and put a rope around his neck.

“This is Maga country,” he says they told him, referring to President Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again slogan.

The actor said he had been “forever changed” by the incident.

The incident led to an outpouring of support for Smollett

The Grand Jury has slammed him with an indictment of felony and he might as well be staying in jail for three years.
