Famotemi Toluwani Timothy, a disc jockey based in Ekiti state, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Command, for allegedly impersonating singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.
According to a statement on Wednesday by Wilson Uwujaren, Head of Media and Publicity of the anti-graft agency, he was arrested on Thursday, September 29, 2022,
Timothy allegedly opened an Instagram account with the name “Zazu Omolalomi Portable,” where he claimed to be the singer.
The statement stated that inquiries showed that the suspect met one of his victims, Adebayo Adedimeji Lukman, who runs a club in Offa, Kwara State, on social media. He introduced himself as “Portable” and arranged to perform at the club for the sum of N1m.
The suspect demanded that 80 percent of the money be paid before the event, and Adebayo reportedly paid the sum of N790,000 into a bank account number provided by the suspect.
However, Timothy “Portable” did not show up at the event, which was held on February 18, 2022, and eventually blocked all means of communication with the suspect.
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the statement added.
