TVC E. A 37-year-old man is facing jail term for murdering his four children
Lesiba Kekana, has pleaded guilty to murder charges leveled against him in Limpopo high court, South Africa.
He killed his four children after an argument with their mother, Lorraine Kekana who was in Guateng at the time. He had accused her over the phone of having affairs with other men and after ending the call, he picked up a kitchen knife with which he slit his children’s throats.
According to prosecution, his children 13-year-old Bokang kekana, 10-year-old Keneilwe Kekana, 6-year-old Hlologelo Kekana and 4-year-old Lekgoledi Kekana, died as a result of the “sharp force neck trauma” they suffered.
When asked by the murders by the court, Kekana pleaded guilty and proceeded to give an explanation as to what happened.
Here’s what he said below:
“I have a full knowledge of what happened as explained by my counsel, that I plead guilty from count one to four of murder” He further explained how he had found a used condom in the house which he was sure wasn’t his, which got him very angry prompting him to confront his wife who admitted to having an affair: “She admitted, and told me that she had an affair with another man, we slept there and she asked me not to return to Moletlane. I got extremely angry that I resolved to myself that I should kill myself … immediately after hanging [up] the phone Bokang Kekana came to where I was, I then thought what will happen to them … I then took a knife and cut Bokang …”
The Kekane children Kekana explained how he went in search of his other sons who were unaware of what had happened to their elder brother and also found and killed Hlologelo: “I proceeded and found them sleeping … I found Keneilwe … I cut his throat and I immediately cut Lekgoledi’s throat, with motive of killing, I then cut my throat with intent to kill myself, unfortunately I did not die, I took a rope, while I was busy I heard knock on the door, and people came into my house.”
The presiding judge, Joseph Raulinga gave his judgement by saying: “The court is satisfied that the contents of the statement comply with the charges preferred against the accused and the accused is found guilty as charged” Kekana who has no previous criminal records according to the police, is now awaiting sentencing.
