Oil and Gas: Reps Committee laments non-availability of documents

The ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives investigating the sale of oil prospecting licenses and Oil Mining Leases has condemned the inability of some government agencies to provide documents that will aid its assignment.

The committee made this known at a public hearing featuring the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Department of Petroleum Resources and other relevant bodies.

National assembly Correspondent, Joke Adisa reports that at the technical session, CBN Deputy Governor says as a liaison bank, it
does not keep record of sales of OPL and OML.

Adebayo Adelabu told the committee that JP Morgan, which keeps record, only maintains a record sheet of seven years

He explained that the records of sale between 2002 and 2009 being sought by the lawmakers has either been discarded or archived, to which the legislators raised eye brows

The lawmakers are also accused the government agencies of providing conflicting documents

The committee has directed the MDAs to furnish it with relevant documents for it to forge ahead in the task before it.
