The Police Service Commission says it has approved the promotion of more than 2,000 senior police officers.
The commission spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said the Commissioner of Police, Kaumi Ahmadu, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, while 99 Superintendents of Police were elevated to the rank of Chief Superintendents of Police.
The commission also approved the promotion of 754 Deputy Superintendents of Police, to the rank of Superintendents of Police.
Chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro, said the promotions were based on merit, seniority and availability of vacancies.
