Speed Darlington Reacts As Naptip Declares Him Wanted Over Rape And Cybercrime Allegations

Controversial Nigerian entertainer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, is once again making headlines—this time for serious allegations brought against him by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). The agency publicly declared him wanted via its official Instagram page on Friday, citing alleged offences including rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.

According to NAPTIP, the declaration follows Speed Darlington’s failure to honour a formal invitation issued on May 30, 2025, requiring him to appear at their headquarters in Abuja. The invitation came after the singer allegedly claimed during a live Instagram session that he had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. Though he later claimed it was a prank and part of a publicity stunt for a new song, public outrage and criticism have persisted.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, Speed Darlington dismissed the development, stating that NAPTIP has no legal grounds to declare him wanted. In a recent interview, he said, “Thanks for the heads up, but I’m not worried. They have no right to declare me wanted. My lawyer will handle it.” He insisted that the agency’s actions were merely an attempt to embarrass him and that legal action would be taken in response.

NAPTIP, however, maintains that the matter is of urgent national concern. In a follow-up letter signed by its Director of Information and Communications Technology and Cybercrime Response Team Coordinator, Hakeem Lawal, the agency stressed that Darlington had been given ample time to respond. He was further instructed to appear no later than June 2, 2025—a directive he reportedly ignored.

As the case unfolds, public attention is now fixed on how both NAPTIP and Speed Darlington’s legal team proceed, especially as conversations about accountability, influencer culture, and digital responsibility continue to gain momentum.
