Rivers Governor Wike, Peterside disagree over Supreme Court verdict

TVC E, POLITICS – The Rivers state government has finally responded to insinuations by the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Dr Dakuku Peterside that some Supreme Court judges may have been compromised in affirming Governor Nyesom Wike as winner of the last governorship election in the state.

Both the ruling PDP and APC in Rivers State have continued to trade accusations since the apex court judgment of January 27 this year that gave victory to governor Wike.

The APC candidate’s allegation was in response to governor Wike’s comment at a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt where he offered to father Dr Dakuku and other APC members in the state who had complained of being treated as orphans when they paid a courtesy call on the national leadership of their party in Abuja.

But the Rivers State commissioner for information, Dr Austin Tam-George said there is no iota of truth in the allegations by Dr Dakuku. He dared him to substantiate them.

Both Governor Wike who spoke through his information commissioner and Dr Dakuku also differ on whether the judgement of the apex court was influenced.

Already; there are fears that the forthcoming re-run legislative election in the state scheduled for March the 19th this year may not be violence-free unless major political actors sheath their swords and embrace peace.
