Rivers Governor Wike charges INEC on free and fair elections

WIKETVCE , POLITICS – Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that legislative re-run elections in the state scheduled for March 19TH this year are free, fair and credible.

He gave INEC this task during last Saturday’s thanksgiving service in celebration of his Supreme Court victory held at the Liberation stadium in Port Harcourt.

Governor Wike said the electoral body must ensure that it does not bow to any pressure no matter the quarter such may come from. He urged all Rivers state electorate especially those of the ruling PDP to be ready to protect their votes.

The governor denied insinuations that he incited people of the Ogoni ethnic nationality against themselves in the recent killings and destruction of properties in Bori and Yeghe communities.

National chairman of the PDP, Alli Modu Sheriff tasked the Governor to ensure that his administration makes impact on the lives of the Rivers people.

But many Rivers residents want the Governor Wike’s administration to pay more attention to the looming insecurity in the state to ensure the safety of lives and property and guarantee safe atmosphere for free and fair polls.
