President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2016 budget proposal presented before the joint session of the National Assembly two weeks ago indicates that N139.9 million out of the N39billion budgeted for the Presidency will be spent on the Internet in Nigeria’s seat of power,  Aso Rock.

The sum of NGN114.4million will be expended on the upgrade of the existing Internet infrastructure in the State House and another NGN22.5million to be spent on purchasing new Internet servers.

Other technology related expenditures in the budget proposal includes the purchasing of what is described as ‘Active Devices for State House Network’, which will cost NGN100 million.

NGN35 million has been earmarked for the purchase of security appliances and licenses, including computer anti-virus software. This is even as the 2016 budget includes NGN55.7 million for installation of budget planning software.

The presidency will also spend NGN27.5 million for the purchase of computers.

Out of the NGN90.3 billion budgeted for the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for 2016, NGN8.7 billion is to be expended to develop the ONSA’s “All-Eye” surveillance project.
