Manchester United vs Wigan: Jose Mourinho makes winning start

TVC E. Jose Mourinho’s reign as Manchester United manager got off to a winning start at the DW Stadium

as he oversaw a 2-0 victory over Championship side Wigan in their first pre-season friendly of the season, with new signings Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly both making their debuts for the club.

  • FT – Wigan 0 Manchester United 2: Will Keane and Andreas Pereira scored the first goals of the Jose Mourinho era as Manchester United strolled to a routine victory against Wigan Athletic in the Portuguese’s first match in charge. 

     
    Mourinho handed starts to new signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the short trip up the M69 as Luke Shaw returned from his ten-month exile following a double leg fracture against PSV Eindhoven in September. 
     
    But it was Mkhitaryan who stood out for the visitors before his withdrawal at half-time.Central to everything his new side did at the DW Stadium, the £23m capture from Borussia Dortmund forced Mourinho’s men forward when they would have previously dug in the trenches.
