Ban on rice importation at land borders still in force : Customs

The Nigerian Customs Service has restated that the ban on rice importation at land borders is still in force.

A report that rice had been removed from the import restriction list at land borders which was published last year had resurfaced online on Saturday.

But in a phone chat with one of our correspondents, the Public Relations Officer of Customs, Mr Wale Adeniyi dismissed the report and stated that it was illegal to bring in rice through the land borders in Nigeria.

Mr Adeniyi said the only appropriate route of importing the product remains through the seaports.

He called on Nigerians to continue cooperating with the agency and desist from all forms of smuggling as those caught will be made to face the law.
