Lagos ministry of environment warns against building on canals

The commissioner for the Environment, Babatunde Adejare has warned against building on canals and their setbacks, saying it could lead to flooding in Lagos.
The commissioner said this during a drainage inspection tour of Mende-okeaolo-Soluyi-Gbagada Canal on saturday.

Assessing the extent of encroachment in three different areas in Lagos, Adejare said that government would not hesitate to remove any structure found on drainages or canals or along their setbacks.

He pointed out that the right of way of these drainages, should be 30 meters for earth channels or 15 meters for lined channels.
