APC, PDP bicker over Rivers re-run election results

TVC E, POLITICS – The decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, to suspend further announcement of results from the  re-run election in Rivers State has been generating reactions.

The opposition party, All Progressives Congress, and the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party both lay claims to victory in the polls marred by violence and other irregularities.

Before its decision to suspend all electoral processes in last Saturdays re-run in Rivers State, INEC had already announced results for one federal and eight state constituencies.

But the opposition APC is alleging that the results returning the PDP candidates were written on fake result sheets.

The APC state Chairman made the allegation at a press conference in Port Harcourt.

He also claimed that the exercise was only suspended in areas where the use of fake result sheets was impossible.

But in a swift reaction, the River State Commissioner for information claimed the PDP was leading in all 23 Local Government Areas before INEC suspended the announcement of results.

He denied the involvement of the party in the circulation of fake result sheets on Election Day.

Even as the APC maintained its call for an outright cancellation of the polls, the information commissioner insists that the PDP is poised to win again should the entire elections be re-scheduled.
