The Final Countdown: Pep Guardiola’s Last Season with Manchester City

Pep Guardiola, the current manager of Manchester City, is expected to leave the club at the end of the upcoming season. Guardiola has had a successful tenure at the Etihad, leading the team to their fourth consecutive Premier League title this season. Since his arrival in 2016, Guardiola has won an impressive six league titles with Manchester City. However, with just 12 months left on his current contract, sources believe that Guardiola will walk away once his deal expires.

Guardiola’s Legacy at Manchester City

Despite his impending departure, Manchester City is giving Guardiola time to make a final decision on his future. The club’s hierarchy wants him to remain in charge, as Guardiola has led the team to a total of 15 major trophies, including their first Champions League title. However, there has been no formal indication from Guardiola about his intentions for the future. The club fears that the end of next season will mark the conclusion of Guardiola’s remarkable spell as their manager.

Potential Replacements for Guardiola

Manchester City’s leadership is already considering potential replacements for Guardiola. At the moment, four managers have caught their attention. Girona’s Michel, Julian Nagelsmann, Xabi Alonso, and Roberto De Zerbi are all believed to be in the running to take over as the club’s manager in the summer of 2025.

  • Michel, 48, has been discussed as a potential successor within the City Group. He recently led Girona to an impressive third-place finish in La Liga.
  • Nagelsmann, who will be taking charge of the German national team at Euro 2024, has managerial experience with Bayern Munich and is currently contracted until 2026.
  • Alonso, highly regarded following his successful stint at Bayer Leverkusen, turned down the opportunity to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
  • Guardiola himself admires De Zerbi, who is currently without a team after leaving Brighton.

It remains to be seen who will ultimately succeed Guardiola as the manager of Manchester City, but these are the names that are currently being considered by the club’s leadership.
