Sweden based Rita Chikwelu to captain Nigeria in Cameroon

The 2016 Africa women’s cup of nations will kick off on Saturday in Cameroon.

Defending champions Nigeria have announced Sweden-based midfielder Rita Chikwelu as captain.

Chikwelu replaces Evelyn Nwabuoku, who has been left out of the squad due to injury.

The 28 year-old Chkwelu has been a senior international since 2007.

The Super falcons will begin their title defence on Sunday against Mali.

Kenya and Ghana are the other teams in their qualifying group.

Hostilities will resume on Saturday when South Africa take on Zimbabawe in Group A.

Hosts Cameroon are up against Egypt.

The Super Falcons are the dominant force on the continent, having been crowned African champions seven times.
