TVC E, POLITICS – The re-run of the Bayelsa state governorship election in some parts of the state gets underway tomorrow.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Seriake Dickson, and his All Progressives Congress counterpart,Timipre Sylva, are making final moves to win the election.
In the rerun,which will produce the eventual winner,the candidates of the two frontline political parties,will battle for over 100,000 votes in the LGA from 101 polling units.
of the results from 7 local government areas of 8 so far declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, Dickson has polled 105,748 votes against Sylva’s 72,534, indicating that the PDP is ahead with 33,214 votes.
Based on INEC’s record, Southern Ijaw has about 70, 000 permanent voter card holders while the accredited voters of the 101 cancelled polling units is slightly above 30, 000.
INEC had cancelled the Southern Ijaw poll over alleged widespread violence, ballot snatching and hostage taking of electoral officers and employees.
With the cancellation,the electoral body declared the governorship election in the state inconclusive and rescheduled the poll.
The riverine southern Ijaw LGA might be turned into the major battleground giving the violence that had characterised the Decemeber 5th poll by militants from both camps.
The Nigerian police are bracing up to the task with the deployment of 5000 police men led by a deputy inspector general of police to Southern Ijaw for Saturday’s rerun.
