Femi Kuti misses breaking world record for longest single note on a saxophone

Femi Kuti, son of late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti made a very close effort to break the current world record for the longest note held on a saxophone.
Femi Kuti held a single note on a saxophone for 46 mins 38secs on Sunday .

This surpassed saxophonist extraordinaire Kenny G’s record which stood at 45 mins 37 secs, but failed to meet and surpass the current world holder Vann Burchfield’s record of 47 minutes 5.5 seconds.

Back in 1997 Kenny G  held the record for the longest note ever held on a saxophone when he held an E-flat for 45 minutes, using a technique termed Circular breathing.

Kenny G however lost the record in 2000 to musician Vann Burchfield who went on to hold the note for 47 minutes, 5.5 seconds.

The technique ”Circular Breathing” used by these musicians is applied by players of some wind instruments to produce a continuous tone without interruption.

This is accomplished by breathing in through the nose while simultaneously pushing air out through the mouth using air stored in the cheeks.
