LASG suspends issuance of dredging licenses

TVC E, BUSINESS – In a bid to protect the environment from further degradation, the Lagos state government has suspended the issuance and renewal of licenses to dredging companies in the state.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting , the state commissioner for waterfront infrastructure development, Engineer Adebowale Akinsanya said the activities of dredgers had impacted the eco-system negatively.

He said the days of illegal dredging, use of sub-standard and environmentally unfriendly equipment are over.

Akinsanya said henceforth, the state government in partnership with the Nigeria inland waterways authority will regulate the activities of dredging companies and issue approvals for all categories of permits.
