Military misfire: Buhari sends condolence message to Borno govt

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to that military misfire that led to the death of 52 people and injured many, describing it as regrettable.

In his message, the president condoled with the families of the dead, wished the wounded full recovery, and sympathized with the Borno State government.

The President also pleaded for calm, and pledged federal help for the state government in attending to the situation.

52 people are dead after a fighter jet mistakenly fired at civilians in a community in Borno State, killing locals, and aid workers.

The theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Lucky Irabor told journalists he ordered the action after the military got reports of a gathering of Boko Haram members in Rann.

It turned out the community housed displaced persons and workers from the International Committee of the Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders.
