Newcastle Secures Chelsea’s Lewis Hall for £28m in Permanent Deal

Newcastle United have turned defender Lewis Hall’s loan move from Chelsea into a permanent transfer, signing the 19-year-old left-back for a fee of £28 million, plus an additional £7 million in potential add-ons.

Hall joined the Magpies last August and made 22 appearances, scoring twice, during the 2023-24 season. The England Under-21 international expressed his pride in being able to continue his journey at Newcastle, saying, “When you pull on the black and white shirt, there is no feeling like it and playing in front of the best supporters in the country is extra special for me, being a Toon fan.”

The young defender gained valuable experience during his loan spell and is now looking forward to pushing on with the squad this season. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe praised Hall’s talent and attitude, stating that he is excited for this next phase of the player’s career in a Newcastle United shirt.

In addition to the permanent signing of Hall, Newcastle have also brought in veteran goalkeeper John Ruddy on a one-year contract after his deal with Birmingham City expired. Ruddy described the opportunity to join the Magpies as one he “couldn’t turn down,” as the club is “only going one way” and he is eager to be a part of its continued progress.

The signings of Hall and Ruddy demonstrate Newcastle’s ambition to strengthen their squad and build on the success of the previous season. With the highly-rated Hall now a permanent fixture, the Magpies will be hoping he can continue to develop and contribute to the team’s push for further achievements in the upcoming campaign.
