PSG Faces Potential Champions League Exclusion as Kylian Mbappe Claims €55 Million in Unpaid Wages

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) risks expulsion from the Champions League due to allegations made by Kylian Mbappe over €55 million in unpaid wages.

The World Cup winner left Parc des Princes at the end of his contract and has since joined Real Madrid’s “Galactico” lineup. Despite severing ties with PSG, the 25-year-old continues to pursue the financial dispute with his former club.

Mbappe claims PSG owes him €55 million, which includes the final installment of a €36 million signing bonus, the last three months of his salary, and an ‘ethics bonus’ for April to June 2024. According to Le Monde, his legal team has escalated the issue to the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and UEFA through an intermediary from the French Football Federation (FFF).

The LFP’s legal committee holds the authority to impose a transfer ban on PSG until the dispute is resolved. Additionally, with UEFA now involved, PSG could potentially lose its license to compete in European tournaments, including the Champions League, if the matter with Mbappe isn’t addressed satisfactorily.

Mbappe’s departure from PSG has turned contentious, with the star claiming the club failed to fulfill its contractual obligations. PSG disputes these claims, arguing that Mbappe agreed to waive certain payments upon leaving as a free agent. However, no formal agreement was reached since their last discussions in 2023.

Possible Legal Escalation and Consequences for PSG

If the dispute remains unresolved, Mbappe may take the matter to France’s labor court. Meanwhile, the LFP could impose sanctions on PSG for failing to pay the owed amounts. This situation adds a dramatic twist to Mbappe’s exit from PSG, where he enjoyed a successful seven-year tenure, winning multiple titles but ultimately failing to secure a Champions League trophy.
