Snapchat Introduces New Features: Edit Sent Messages, AI Reminders, and More

Snapchat is introducing new features that include editing unread sent messages, an AI reminders function, emoji reactions, and more. The platform will allow users to edit messages that haven’t been opened within five minutes of sending, which is useful for correcting typos or other mistakes. Snapchat Plus subscribers will be the first to access this feature, following a model similar to Twitter Blue’s paywall for editing tweets.

Editing sent messages is becoming a popular feature across messaging apps. Meta’s Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp have all added this capability in the past year, as has Apple’s iOS 16. Google may soon follow suit.

Snapchat is also expanding its AI offerings, building on last year’s launch of the OpenAI-powered My AI chatbot. Users can ask My AI to remember important dates and set up countdowns. Additionally, Snap will now use AI to create custom clothes for Bitmojis and offer Polaroid-style ’90s versions of users based on selfies.

For those who prefer traditional emoji reactions, Snapchat will now let users send them in messages. Reactions can also be sent to friends who share their location, making it easy to interact during commutes or while at work—just be cautious not to do this while driving. The new Snapchat features are available now, with message editing for Plus subscribers set to arrive soon.
