Spotify Launches Podcast Comment Section to Boost Engagement

Spotify is introducing a new feature that allows listeners to comment directly on podcast episodes, further bridging the gap between podcasters and their audience. This move aims to transform the traditionally one-sided podcast format into a more dynamic, two-way conversation.

Customizable Comment Controls

The new comment section will be accessible by scrolling past the playback controls or navigating to the episode page after listening. Initially, all comments will be private by default, giving creators full control over which ones are made visible on their page. Creators will have the ability to publish or remove any comments as they see fit, or they can choose to enable comments for specific episodes only or opt out of the feature entirely.

To facilitate this new functionality, Spotify is granting all creators access to the updated Spotify for Podcasters app, regardless of whether their shows are hosted on Spotify’s platform. Those not using the Spotify hosting service can simply claim their podcast through the app to start managing comments.

Audience Insights and Analytics

In addition to moderating comments, creators will receive notifications for new feedback and when their shows reach certain milestones. They will also gain access to audience analytics and insights to better understand their listeners.

Spotify’s data suggests that listeners who engage with the platform’s interactive features, such as Q&As and polls, are four times more likely to return to a podcast within 30 days. These engaged users also spend twice as many hours per month listening compared to non-interactive listeners.

The company plans to continue expanding its interactive offerings and improve the comments experience based on feedback from both podcasters and their audience. This move aligns with Spotify’s broader strategy to increase engagement and foster stronger connections between creators and their fans.
