Apple iPhone 16 Event Scheduled for September 9: What to Expect

Apple has officially announced its highly anticipated iPhone 16 event for September 9 at 1 PM ET.

The event, which follows Google‘s Pixel 9 showcase, is set for the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California, with Apple teasing the occasion under the tagline “It’s Glowtime.”

What’s New for the iPhone 16?

This year’s event will likely focus more on software enhancements and AI features rather than significant hardware changes. Apple plans to upgrade the chipset across the iPhone 16 lineup to ensure compatibility with its new AI capabilities, known as Apple Intelligence. These features, currently available on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, are expected to be included in the new models as well.

Rumors suggest slight increases in screen sizes and a redesigned camera layout, with the base models possibly shifting to a vertical orientation. A new capture button with zoom gesture controls could also make it easier to take photos and videos in landscape mode. Additionally, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus may replace the traditional mute switch with an action button similar to that on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Apple Watch and AirPods Updates

Apple is also expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 10, potentially featuring a new chip for improved performance and a larger screen, possibly expanding from 41mm to a 49mm variant. There are rumors of a redesigned band system that could render existing bands incompatible with the new model.

Updates to the AirPods line are anticipated, with both entry-level and mid-tier versions of AirPods 4 likely to be announced. However, only the mid-tier version may support wireless charging.

Software Rollouts and Live Streaming

Major software updates, including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11, are expected to launch shortly after the event. However, Apple Intelligence features may not be available immediately, as they are currently in the iOS 18.1 beta, with a public release anticipated in October.

The event will be live-streamed on YouTube, Apple’s website, and the Apple TV app, allowing fans worldwide to tune in for the latest announcements. Engadget will provide comprehensive coverage of all the key highlights from the event.
