Google TV Introduces ‘Find My Remote’ Feature

Google TV is set to introduce a convenient new feature to help users locate misplaced remotes. The latest Android update for Google TV includes a “find my remote” feature, which was highlighted in the beta release of Android 14 for TV, announced during last week’s Google I/O conference.

One text string found within the update reads as follows:

There is a button on your Google TV that you can push to play a sound on your remote for 30 seconds. This only works with supported Google TV remote controls. To stop the sound, press any button on your remote.

The feature works by pressing a button on your Google TV device, causing compatible remotes to emit a sound and flash for 30 seconds. This functionality is currently available on the Onn Google TV 4K Pro streaming box, recently released by Walmart. Users can enable or disable the feature and test the sound through the device’s settings.

When the feature is activated by pressing a button on the Onn streaming box, the remote will beep and flash a small LED light if it’s within 30 feet. This indicates that the feature will likely be available on other Google TV devices as well, although older remotes without built-in speakers won’t support it.

We have reached out to Google for more details on the general availability of the Android 14 for TV update and the specific devices that will support this new feature.
