TikTok Introduces Group Chats for Up to 32 Users

TikTok is rolling out a significant update to its direct messaging features, including the highly anticipated addition of group chats.

According to its parent company, ByteDance, this feature is not yet available to all users, but those who can access it will be able to create group chats with up to 32 participants.

Users can initiate a group chat in two different ways. The first method involves tapping the Chat button located at the top of the inbox screen or selecting a name from the messages list, followed by the “More options…” button. From there, users can choose the friends they want to include in the group and then tap “Start group chat.”

The second method allows users to create a group chat while sharing a post. If you have a video you’d like to discuss with multiple friends, simply tap the Share button, select “Create group chat,” choose your friends, add a message if desired, and start the conversation.

Users can accept any group chat invitations they receive through their inbox. However, it’s important to note that you can only invite people you mutually follow to a group chat. Additionally, group chats are not available to users aged 13 to 15. For users aged 16 and 17, they can only join a group chat if at least one mutual friend is already in it. If they create a group chat, they will need to review and manually approve any new members who wish to join.

New Features: Stickers in DMs

In addition to group chats, TikTok is also introducing stickers for direct messages, providing users with another way to engage visually. Users can create and upload custom stickers for others to use, enhancing the overall messaging experience on the platform. This update signifies TikTok’s commitment to enhancing user interaction and engagement, making it easier for friends to connect and discuss content within the app. As group chats become more widely available, users can look forward to a more dynamic and interactive social experience on TikTok.
